Honors
Congratulations is extended to several Ohio Jersey breeders for production achievements in 2009. The herd owned by Regan F. Miller and Family, Big Prairie, ranks sixth in the nation for protein with an AJCA lactation average of 22,529M, 1,089F and 845P on 119 cows. The herd also ranks first for protein, second for fat and fourth for milk among herds with 80-149 cows.

In the same category for herds with 80-149 cows, Cooperrider & Sons, Croton, placed eighth for protein and 10th for milk and fat with a lactation average of 20,244M, 997F and 743P on 100 cows. Scott and Tracie Lindsay, New Waterford, rank eighth for fat, ninth for milk and 10th for protein in the division with a lactation average of 20,300M, 1,008F and 733P on 94 cows.

In the category for herds with 40-79 cows, Putt Dairy Farms, Sugarcreek, ranks eighth for milk with 21,043M, 985F and 743P on 57 cows and O Do Acres Farm, Utica, is 10th for milk with 20,898M, 926F and 729P on 48 cows. Phillip H. Myers, Louisville, ranks eighth for fat and ninth for milk with 20,931M, 1,039F and 725P on 50 cows.

 
Ohio Jersey breeders fared well at the recent All American Jersey Show in Louisville, KY.

In the open show, Ohio exhibitors earned 18 top-10 placings and showed two Reserve All Americans. In the junior show, Ohio youth exhibited two All Americans and five Reserve All Americans and won the state herd class for the second consecutive year. Eight other animals shown by Ohio juniors placed among the top five in their respective classes and Ohio juniors topped two of the three showmanship classes. Ledel Charm Lyda

The 50th Two-Year-Old Jersey Futurity at the Ohio State Fair was a resounding success! Sixty-eight entries from five states competed for prizes, with Ledel Charm Lyda, owned by the Leon Hesler Family of Winchester, being named winner.

DKG Vindication Apricot, exhibited by John, Donna, Trevor, Lane and Blake Greiwe and Grace, Garrett and Meredith Hageman of Sidney was tapped as reserve winner.

Sixty-eight entries from five states competed in the 50th Two-Year-Old Ohio Jersey Futurity. An overview of the class. The total purse for the futurity was $10,000 and the top prize was $1,500.

Elsie the Borden cow made an appearance at the Ohio State Fair to start the Ohio Jersey Futurity. She was escorted by Kenneth Knoop of Sidney. Since 1939 and the first Elsie, there have been at least 32 live Elsies and more of them have come from Ohio than any other state.
