New York Jersey breeders gather several times a year for various events. The annual meeting is held in conjunction with the New York All Breeds Convention in Syracuse in January. A picnic is held at a different location every summer.

New York Jersey breeders discuss industry matters at the club's annual meeting in 2013.

The New York Jersey Cattle Club has traditionally held two sales each year -- the New York Spring Sale in May and the New York State Sale in September. In 2014, the spring sale had a new format and has been re-named New York's Next Generation Jersey Sale.

2016 New York's Next Generation Jersey Sale
Latimore I Luv U was the high seller, purchased by Jason Nagel and Cymberly Carlson for $4,100 and consigned by Janet Ludwig. Pictured with “I Luv U” are Greg Lavan, JMS Manager, third left, Lynn Lee, auctioneer, second right, and New York juniors, left to right, Eric Hansen, Meghan Moody, Bethany Hobin, Alton Rudgers, Megan Chittenden, at the halter, Alex Smith and Katie Carpenter.

This year’s edition of the sale sold 93 lots for an average of $1,528.76 and a gross of $142,175. As they have done the past two years, Jersey breeders from the Empire State utilized internet technology to sell cattle in a format that has become increasingly popular among dairy producers, with bidding opening through JerseyBid.com on April 25 and closing live through JerseyAuctionLive.com on April 30.

About half the consignments traveled to the venue to be sold in traditional, tie-up sale format; the balance sold absentia as group lots, with viewing accomplished through pre-recorded video footage at the home farm. The sale was again held at the Steuben County Fairgrounds in Bath, N.Y. Click here to read more.
