Production Achievements

Several Iowa Jersey herds rank among the best in the nation for milk, fat and protein production based on AJCA lactation averages for 2009. Congratulations is extended to the following:

Lyon Jerseys, Toledo: seventh for milk and fat among herds with 300 or more cows with 21,226M, 1,006F and 745P on 306 cows.

Summit Farm Inc., Lester: ninth for milk among herds with 150-299 cows with 20,588M, 928F and 695P on 233 cows.

John and Edwin Maxwell, Donahue: fifth for protein and seventh for milk among herd with 40-79 cows with 21,636M, 1,027F and 796P on 56 cows.

Lyon Duke Dutchy

Iowa Jersey breeders earned distinctions at the recent All American Jersey Show in Louisville, KY.

Gadget Jade of Edgebrook, exhibited by Patty Dilly of Montour, was Reserve All American Junior Three-Year-Old and Reserve Intermediate Champion.

Gibbs Militia Journey, shown by Dwight Gibbs of Epworth and Norman Nabholz of West Union, was Reserve All American Milking Senior Yearling and BBDN Furor Eureka-ET, owned by Nabholz, was Reserve All American Intermediate Heifer Calf.

In the junior show, Iowa-bred Lyon Duke Dutchy was named Grand Champion. "Dutchy" was bred by Lyon Jerseys of Toledo and is now owned by Ben Sauder of Tremont, IL.

National Dairy Awards

Congratulations Brian and Heidi Latzky of Hawkeye for being named 2009 Progressive Dairy Producers (herds under 300 cows) by the National Dairy Shrine. CLICK HERE for an article about the couple published in the September issue of the Jersey Journal.

A hearty congratulations is also extended to Iowa native, Maurice Core, for being named 2009 World Dairy Expo Industry Person of the Year. CLICK HERE for a report carried in the same issue of the Jersey Journal.

 

Iowa Juniors

Congratulations to a pair of Iowa siblings who placed in contests sponsored by the American Jersey Cattle Association. Amy Maxwell of Donahue placed third in Division II of the 2008 National Jersey Youth Production Contest with her entry, Cinnamon Ridge Artis Praise. Her sister, Kara Alice Maxwell, placed ninth in the same contest with Paramount Sue.

Amy and Kara also earned kudos in the 2009 Pot O'Gold Production Contest, placing sixth and 10th, respectively.
