The Sherman family has always
concentrated on using, developing and breeding top Jersey sires.
Donnie's father and uncle were pioneers in artificial insemination, having
the first bull to be collected at the University of California-Davis in
the 1940s.
Today D&E Jerseys uses service sires that are among the top for JPI,
with emphasis on profitable production, functional type and lower levels
of inbreeding.
About 40 percent of the herd
matings are made using young sires. D&E Jerseys is a member of
Liberty Jersey Sires,
Dixieland Jersey Sires and Jerseyland Jersey Sires,
of which they are a founding member. Donnie has been a member of
Jerseyland's Sire Selection Committee from the beginning. D&E
Jerseys also uses young sires from Select Sires and Alta Genetics.
D&E Jerseys has bred several
A.I. bulls that have been widely used by other Jersey breeders across the
country, including D&E Avery Kody, D&E Daniel Kendall-ET, D&E Select
Keith-ET and Avi-Lanche Brass Major Marble. Among active A.I. sires,
Avi-Lanche Daniel Borden is ranked #82 for JPI with an index of +84
(1/10).

young sire sampling programs and awaiting proofs.

"Abe
Violet" has three sons in A.I. sampling programs: two by "Echo"
and one by "Jevon." 11JE942 D&E Volt-ET and 11JE1019 D&E Jevon
Victory-ET are at Alta Jerseyland and D&E Echo Advantage 6112-ET is
at Select Sires.
"Violet" has other sons
on the ground heading to Alta Jerseyland (a "Carrier" son) and ABS
Global (a "Celebrity" son) and is contracted to ABS Global for a
"Headline" son.
